July 2015 – AGM and Guest speaker Paul Tant from bankMECU

Our July event was a presentation by Paul Tant. Paul spoke about how Bank Australia  (formerly bankmecu) differs from the big 4 banks in being smaller, customer owned and how Bank Australia invests in an environmentally responsible manner.

Paul also spoke about an innovative project Bank Australia  runs in the West Wimmera of Victoria, the Conservation Reserve. Bank Australia customers own 927 ha of marginal farm land. This land is used to grow trees to absorb the equivalent emissions that result from car loans issued and to replace any biodiversity loss caused by the building of new homes. The Conservation Reserve involves a partnership with the Kowree Farm Tree Group,  Landcare Australia and Trust for Nature to manage the 927 ha providing local employment.

You can watch  an informative video that explains this project at.
